Overview
RIME (裏命) is the third voice synthesis software in KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO’s “Musical Isotope” (音楽的同位体) series. It is built using AI technology based on the vocal data of virtual singer RIM (理芽) to generate highly realistic singing voices.
Running on the CeVIO AI platform, the name “RIME” is derived from the concept of “RIM + ECHO”. She inherits the combination of transparency and mysterious vibes from RIM’s voice, while exhibiting powerful emotional expression.
Character and Creative Positioning
Designed by PALOW., RIME’s visual features include white hair with deep blue highlights and an eight-pointed star hair accessory, giving her a cool and cybernetic look. In terms of vocal performance, RIME is equipped with realistic breathing sounds and delicate vocal control, allowing her to deliver strong emotional resonance across fast-paced electronic, rock, or slow ballad genres.
As a member of the Musical Isotope series, she is positioned as a “creative partner” for creators. Within the UGC (User Generated Content) ecosystem, many creators have used RIME to publish a vast collection of diverse derivative works.
Basic Profile and Character Setting
RIME is a CeVIO AI singing-synthesis product and character based on RIM’s vocal data. It preserves the transparency and strangeness associated with the source voice while remaining an independent creative identity.

Representative Songs and Creator Ecosystem
“Insect Plant” is an official demonstration cover connecting RIM’s catalogue to RIME, while “Mandarin” demonstrates RIME as an independent synthetic singer. The Paranormal compilation series gathers UGC works into a formal release history, and the RIME song contest extends the ecosystem to original songs and music videos.
When cataloguing a work, distinguish RIM’s performance, a RIME performance, and a duet between RIM and RIME. TALK EXTENSION expands the project from singing into speech expression.
Official Music and Community Works
RIME’s history differs from that of a conventional solo artist: demonstrations, contests, and creator compilations are the primary milestones. The Paranormal releases should therefore be read as a creator-community archive as well as a music release series.
Official Compilations and Naming System
Built from RIM’s voice and inheriting her husky texture and urban-pop sensibility, it represents the “urban / bilingual” strand.
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| First compilation | RIM+YOU RIME COMPILATION ALBUM Paradox (2023-01-25) |
| Naming | Follows the formula “source-witch code + YOU”, meaning “RIM and you” |
| Voice template | RIM |
| Release system | KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO Musical Isotope series |
What the naming means: titling the official compilations “X+YOU” redefines the Isotope from a “tool” into “a partner who creates alongside the listener”. Every track on the compilations comes from an invited or selected creator, making them a direct intersection of the official and community creative ecosystems.
Acoustic Engines and Library Specifications
The Musical Isotope project is built on a dual-engine acoustic architecture, each engine serving a different purpose.
| Engine | Developer | Technical character |
|---|---|---|
| CeVIO AI | Techno-Speech | Evolved from a hybrid of HMM and deep neural networks (DNN), it captures vibrato, breath and vocal-fold micro-noise — the “imperfect but alive” detail of a real singer — to an extreme degree |
| Synthesizer V AI | Dreamtonics (5th generation) | A fully autoregressive acoustic model with cross-lingual singing (natural Japanese/English/Chinese transitions), seamless morphing of emotion parameters (Power / Soft / Clear), and very high render speed and editability |
Why both: CeVIO AI preserves human imperfection; Synthesizer V AI handles cross-lingual work and deep editability. Together they cover everything from reproducing a live vocal texture to giving global creators full creative latitude.
Open Licensing and the Derivative-Work Ecosystem
For the Musical Isotope project KAMITSUBAKI abandoned the closed restrictions of conventional artist management and built an open, self-reinforcing licensing loop.
- A commercial-use threshold instead of a ban: doujin musicians may freely use the voice libraries within a defined revenue ceiling and release the resulting originals straight to streaming platforms.
- Official compilations that absorb the scene: through open calls for official compilation albums, outstanding community creators and works are brought onto major releases, creating a cycle of “community creation → official validation → wider reach”.
- Results: this mechanism produced phenomenon-level UGC hits such as “キュートなカノジョ” and “フォニイ”, carrying AI singing into the centre of mainstream pop culture.
Industry significance: where the traditional record system restricts derivative works, KAMITSUBAKI treats a voice library as a gateway into an ecosystem rather than a closed asset — the fundamental reason the Isotope family accumulated such a vast body of UGC within a few years.
Related Projects / Setting
RIME is a core member of the “Musical Isotope Project” initiated by KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO. Using virtual singers’ vocal data to create synthesis software, this project allows RIM’s voice to transcend standard vocal performances and become a versatile musical material for creators to restructure infinitely.
Relationship to the Source Witch
| Item | Detail |
|---|---|
| Voice template | RIM |
| System | One node of the five-witch isotope matrix of V.W.P |
| First release | CeVIO AI (a Synthesizer V AI edition followed) |
| Position in the lore | The digital-side counterpart of KAMITSUBAKI’s “song singularity”, sharing one source of “singing voice” with RIM |
Naming rule: each Isotope’s official name is drawn directly from its source witch (KAFU←KAF, RIME←RIM, SEKAI←ISEKAIJOUCHO, COKO←KOKO, HARU←HARUSARUHI). The convention itself declares the core idea: different forms of one existence.
