Overview

PIEDPIPER is the overall lead producer (統括プロデューサー) of KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO, the creative collective behind some of the most distinctive virtual artist projects in Japan. He is responsible for the strategic and creative direction that unifies the studio’s diverse roster of singers, composers, and multimedia ventures.

His oversight extends across the entire Kamitsubaki ecosystem: the solo activities of KAF, the group dynamics of V.W.P, and the studio’s major intellectual property projects including 神椿市建設中。 (Kamitsubaki City Under Construction), 音楽的同位体 (Musical Isotope), and the KAMITSUBAKI VERSE initiative. In this capacity, PIEDPIPER serves as the connective tissue linking individual creative output to the broader narrative architecture of the Kamitsubaki universe.

Role and Creative Position

As overall lead producer, PIEDPIPER’s role is fundamentally organizational and visionary rather than authorial in the narrow sense. He sets production priorities, coordinates cross-artist projects, and ensures that the studio’s various moving parts — music, visuals, live events, IP expansions — remain aligned with a coherent creative philosophy. His position is analogous to that of an executive producer in film or a showrunner in television: not the sole voice, but the one who shapes the whole.

Producer Philosophy and Aesthetic Stance

PIEDPIPER is an executive officer of THINKR Inc. and the supervising director of KAMITSUBAKI STUDIO. In 2018, when the virtual-artist industry was broadly mired in “streamer skins, tip-based monetisation, and daily livestreaming,” he emerged from the soil of Japan’s underground independent music and visual art and founded an aesthetic school that runs in the completely opposite direction:

  1. “Sell no persona; sell only the resonance of the soul”: He refuses to disclose the singers’ real faces, yet never treats them as mere tool-like avatars. He gives each singer almost ruthlessly first-rate musical resources and visual packaging, letting them find a sense of existence between real streets and virtual light and shadow.
  2. The “accomplice philosophy”: He originated the concepts of the “Observer” and the “Accomplice”, stressing that the witch truly lives only when the music echoes in the listener’s heart.
  3. Independent decisions unafraid of risk: In June 2024 he led a complete withdrawal from the Avex group, and in August completed a Series A raise of roughly 5 billion yen, bringing in industrial capital such as KDDI Open Innovation Fund No. 3 and realising full management control (an MBO). His public position is: “To protect KAMITSUBAKI’s pure original story and artistic fervour from being bound by the assessments of a traditional conglomerate, we must hold the supreme decision-making power in complete independence.”

Closest comrades-in-arms: Kenjiro Hariya (THINKR CEO), PALOW. (lead concept artist), Kawasaki (video director), Tsukishima Souki (screenwriter).

Management style: PIEDPIPER’s path is “protecting extremely personal creation with first-rate commercial resources” — he simultaneously plays the dual role of capital operator and gatekeeper of aesthetics, something exceedingly rare in Japan’s virtual-artist industry.

  • KAF — solo artist production and creative direction
  • V.W.P — group formation and strategic oversight
  • 神椿市建設中。 — transmedia IP project
  • 音楽的同位体 — musical isotope series
  • KAMITSUBAKI VERSE — narrative universe expansion

The Creator-Ecosystem Covenant

  • With Kanzaki Iori: an artistic alliance of mentor and friend. He gave Kanzaki Iori absolute trust and creative autonomy during his most lost period, producing the dark and redemptive style of KAF’s early years; when Kanzaki Iori sought individual expression in 2023, PIEDPIPER escorted his graduation with dignity and maintains deep collaboration to this day.
  • With PALOW. (core character concept artist): the anchor of visual taste. He upheld PALOW.’s impasto technique fused with mecha-SF realism and rejected the homogenised moe cartoon faces flooding the market, imbuing the witches with a sacred, mysterious and austere beauty.
  • With pioneering producers such as Sasagawa Mao, Guiano and Onuma Parsley: he granted non-mainstream composers an extremely free space for expression, drawing out RIM’s urban psychedelia, HARUSARUHI’s rapping power and ISEKAIJOUCHO’s operatic voice to the fullest.

Ecosystem logic: PIEDPIPER’s way of deploying people is not to “unify the style” but to pair each artist with the creator best suited to their temperament, and then let those creators work in parallel within the same worldview — this is the fundamental reason KAMITSUBAKI’s five witches each have a distinct face while sharing one universe.
